Cardiovascular Technology

Cardiovascular technologists train to work alongside cardiologists, conducting tests on cardiovascular and pulmonary systems for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

A rewarding career, these professionals work in hospitals, physicians' offices, and outpatient care centers, as well as medical and diagnostic labs and specialty hospitals.

This program is offered partially online with clinicals in local health facilities through a partnership with the EPiC (Educational Programs in Collaboration) program.

  • About the Cardiovascular Technology Degree

Cardiovascular technology is a fast-growing field. In fact. it's rated #43 of the Best Health Care Jobs by U.S. News. In addition to a firm grasp on their craft, these professionals need to have a good bedside manner with patients and be able to stay on their feet most of the day. They may also have to help patients who are unable to move easily, get around while they are being tested. This program will equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to excel in the field and enjoy a steady career.

After completing pre-reqs and being accepted into the EPiC cardiovascular technology program, you’ll begin with an orientation to patient care, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, diagnostic and lab procedures, and hemodynamics. You’ll also learn cardiovascular interventional procedures, radiation physics and pharmacology, and more.

During the second semester of the program, you’ll be placed in clinical sites where you will gain experience working in cardiovascular labs and testing facilities and applying the principles you’re learning in your courses.

You’ll cap off your program with a course designed to prepare you to take your registered cardiovascular invasive specialist exam.

  • How the Program Works

This program is offered in conjunction with the partnership with the Educational Programs in Collaboration (EPiC) program.

SMC courses may be offered during the day or in the evening. EPiC courses are fully online, with clinicals completed at affiliated health care centers.

SMC courses are billed at SMC’s tuition rate. EPiC courses are billed at a different rate, which is based on credit hours, not contact hours. There is also a flat rate course fee for each course in the program. In 2025-26, the EPiC program tuition rate is $210 per credit hour plus the flat rate fee per course.
