Course Description

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in HIMS 101; minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or satisfactory test scores placing into ENGL 103W or higher; concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. This course covers legal terminology in addition to legislative and regulatory processes. Topics include confidentiality; privacy and security policies, procedures and monitoring; release of information policies and procedures; and professional-related and practice-related ethical issues. Upon completion, students should be able to implement policies and procedures for access and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) as well as apply and promote ethical standards. A final grade of "C" or better is required to pass this course successfully. [Semesters Offered: Spring]
