Course Description
Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in ENGL 115, ENGL 103W, ENGL 103, or ENGL 104, or satisfactory test scores placing into ENGL 103W or higher. Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 115 allowed. This course introduces Health Information Management (HIM) and its role in healthcare delivery systems. Topics include standards, regulations and initiatives; payment and reimbursement systems, healthcare providers and disciplines; and electronic health records (EHRs). Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of health information management and healthcare organizations, professions and trends. A grade of C or better is required to pass this course successfully. [Semesters Offered: Fall]
